Black Indie Author Day: Celebrating Self-Published Voices
Today we celebrate the freedom to write stories from the heart, the way we want to write them.
Today is Black Indie Author Day, established by SistahGirlsBookclub.
Every day, I am grateful to be a self-published author of novels that center and celebrate my culture and my people. When someone asks if I plan to pursue traditional publishing, I honestly have to pause and consider it. Truthfully, I love being in control— manning the steering wheel and directing this big ole boat. I love making the decisions, shaping my career, and having a say in how my books are presented to the world.
Most of all, I love writing stories from my heart, exactly the way they come to me and out of me for the audience that I choose and those who choose me.
Thank you for your unwavering support to be the writer, author, publisher that I purpose to be. I don’t think I ever dreamed, when I published my debut in 2015, that I would be here almost ten years later, but I am so, so proud.
Of all of us. I don’t have competition. I have colleagues. I have coworkers. I have friends. I am proud of how far we have come since the beginnings of self publishing.
Let's keep moving forward together.

When I started writing in the 7th grade, my initial goal was to be traditionally published. Until I conducted research and realized how much control you DON'T have when it comes the publishing process. Like you, that's the main reason why I self-pubbed my two YA books. I don't plan to self-pub the short and steamies I'll be writing. At least, not right away.
Let’s keep it rocking!
